What is mBT?
Masai Barefoot Technology or MBT is not just a shoe in the ordinary sense it is a revolutionary fitness aid from SwissMasai. The function of MBT is similar to that of balancing a ball under the foot.
Increased input-response makes it easier for the musculature to react adequately. After ground contact there is a rolling movement, starting from a negative heel position (1). This creates a pre-stretch of the calf muscles. The straightening of the body, the balancing on the mid-foot (2) and the pull-through of the step to the back (3) initiates a rotation, which follows through the whole body. OK , so we all know that MBT's aren't dress shoes BUT, these are THE best shoes for body, mind, soul, life and eliminating back pain.
When I wear these I do not get blisters. I do get blisters even with my Merrills, and one pair of Mephistos. And I am a Cole Haan snob/hoarder and only by the Nike Air technology CHs. Now these are not similar at all to CH styling but I don't care. When I wear my MBTs i have no back pain - at all -all day. And the best sleep I get is the night after I've worn them all day. So ya know what, I'm swwithcing around my wardrobe choices to fit my MBTs instead of the other way around (which is my habit). I won 2 pair of the Mary janes and the Browns are very hip in their styling. My classic black pair are great too because black goes with everything!

The shoes run a half size small (as the ordering info stated), but they fit like a glove. I love these shoes. They are oh so comfortable and I am able to wear them with jeans, dress pants and also dresses. They also go well with my work attire. I like the way they fasten at the side of the shoe, as it is comfortable and the strap doesn't dig like other strap shoes I've tried.

I have a lot of problems after having a major lower back surgery, and not only do these shoes help strengthen the muscles in the legs, torso and back, they also ease the tension that I felt at the end of the day. They take a little getting used to, but they are well worth it.

I own 3 pair of MBT's since introduced to 4 months ago. I WON'T wear anything else. Dress boots, sneakers and Mary-Janes. My lower back thanks me everyday! I feel more energized too. I must say that my MBT'S ARE INCREDIBLE, THEY ARE SO COMFORTABLE!!! It is amazing. These are my fourth pair of MBT's and I am glad to finally have a pair that are a little less conspicuous with everyday jeans and khakis. Although I love to combine fashion and comfort, these MBT's provide a little sass that takes away the orthopedic feel of some of their older models. I prefer these with the original sole heights as opposed to the ones that offer the higher sole option. My lower back doesn't hurt and my veins in my legs don't ache like they used to. I find my legs and feet aren't as fatigued and I look forward to working out while I do housework! Needless to say, I'm a big fan of MBTs! BTW, I have wide feet and these fit me very comfortably.

I am currently suffering from a torn ACL and MCL. As I am wearing a brace, I didn't think I could walk with my new MBT. When I tried them on, I was so surprised that I could walk really comfortably in them even though I am walking with a limp. they are super stylish as not as ugly as my high MBT sneakers, that are very functional but not very attractive. These Mary Janes are really cute, they make me tall and improve my posture. The only negative I had is that I wore them to Disneyland for about 2-3 hours and I developed a blister on the side of my ankle, I didn't wear them with socks so that could have done it. I would buy them again!

I had to get one size larger, which didn't seem like a problem. I find the shoe slips off a bit when I walk, the velcro needs to be fasten really tight. I think a laced shoe might have been a better option than the Mary Jane style.

MBT Shoes have cured my foot pain. I stand on my feet all day as a Nanny on hard floors and go up an down stairs carrying a 25-lb baby. I didn't know my pain was from Plantar Faciatis in the arch of my left foot. I tried all the inserts in my other shoes but no go. After investing in my first pair of MBT for work I was hooked so I bought a second pair to wear to and from work. After about four weeks I was cured. I love the styles and they make me feel like I'm walking on air. I do need to wear a hiking sock with the sneakers but not the Mary Janes as my feet are narrow but that is my only complaint. I stand on my feet, on concrete, for 8-10 hours per day. This is the only brand of shoes I've found that give me enough cushion and support that my feet and legs don't hurt at the end of the day. The MBT Kaya Mary-Janes are like wearing Tiggers on your feet--they're bouncy, trouncy, flouncy, pouncy, fun, fun, fun.
The rocking motion of the MBTs takes a little getting used to . . . they sit high off the floor (like a Dansko clog), and rock as you walk. The padding and suspension make it feel like you're walking on springs, and standing back on my heels relieves quite a bit of knee pressure.
I wanted a shoe I could use for multiple occasions (I normally wear Danskos), and so I chose the Mary-Jane as understated enough to go with jeans or a more dressy outfit. I'd prefer the upper and sole be (each) one colour (all brown and all black, respectively), but I tend toward that kind of muting in my dress.

These are my new favorite shoes; my second is a different MBT. Sizing is hard online, i have two adjacent sizes in my two MBTs and both fit well - i wear a slightly thicker thor=lo sock with one. Definitely try to get a good fit in the style you like at a storefront to avoid any problems.....

I purchased this product because I owned the tennis shoes and find them very comfortable - the wearing-in period is important, as they feel very weird for the first few days. Ordering the right size is important as well since they run smaller than regular shoes. I'm sold on the MBT shoes and I notice improvement in my posture and my lower back is helped as well.

I originally bought MBT's for work in the hospital lab. I stand almost all day and MBT's are the only shoes I have found to banish back, leg, and foot pain.

After reading about how MBT's work and all of the great reviews from consumers, I decided to buy a pair for work. I work 12hr shifts at the hospital and thought how great would it be to have my body actually cushioned and strengthened while I work. The first weekend I wore them, I could feel my muscles had a work out! They are amazingly comfortable and my joints did not hurt and everyone thought they were cute. There was no breaking in period. I bought this shoe as a gift for my mother. She doesn't get enough exercise and was having some posture and circulation problems. I originally intended for her to just wear them around the house because I thought she might be embarrassed to wear them out but I was surprised when I saw the shoe in person--they actually were pretty cute. The maryjane style looks good and the designers were very clever about disguising the "MBT-ness" of the profile of the sole by layering different colors. I've seen other styles of MBT's on other people and this is the least obvious of all the ones I've seen. She is also having a ball wearing them for their postural benefits. Both my mother and I are very happy with this purchase.

They run short and also a bit narrow. They are beautifully cut, and if worn without socks they show a bit of toe cleavage, which I find to be alluring. They rock up to launch you into each step, which is a positive thing if you have problems with walking.

I wear my shoes all day, every day. Had to do without them for 2 weeks when my sandles wouldn't work in 0* weather and I ordered the Mary Janes. These are perfect for the office and daily 2 miles walks. Next purchase is a boot for when the snow comes. I can also stand at the ironing board for long lengths of time and not become fatigued, have back or knee pain. My arthritis doctor was RIGHT! Thanks. One BIG problem - I have a high instep AND a wide foot. The strap across the top is very close to being non-functional. Another 1/2 to 1 inch would be GREAT!

I wanted to try the MBT, I was going to foot Dr for Pain in feet when i walked, especially the heel, even had shots in heels, still pain,
When i received my MBT's I could tell a difference the first time i wore them. wore them for three hours the first time. couldn't wait till the next day. I am a size 7. I purchased a 7 1/2. I was not sure if they fit me correctly, so I visited the Palo Alto location. I was not sure if the store would help me as I purchased them on-line. The lady happily assisted and fitted me by adding some padding. Absolutely perfect! I use my MBT's anytime I can when it is not raining. The real test for my MBTs was when I do the dishes. When I usually stand for long periods of time, my back is in pain. I wore my MBT's while doing household chores and dishes, and I was amazed that I felt no pain after 2 hours! Compared to my other shoes, MBTs feel like air; like I am walking on clouds. This is a win-win shoe for me! The next pair I want to get are the black ones so that they are more dressy, as the ones I have are more casual.

This shoe is a bit heavy, and it was loose in the heel area on me so the weight pulled it off even more. I know a size smaller would be way too tight though. I am a 6.5 or 7 in most US shoes, but go a bit larger in boots, athletics and European sizing, like 37.6 o r 38. This one was 37.6. Also, one shoe's rim just happens to hit a spot on the top of my foot bone that is perpetually tender for some reason, so this particular style, while cute, just doesn't work for me. I could tell it would be great to walk on for those who can get a better fit. I'm trying the clog now since I do love the overall concept and comfort.

I use the shoes while working - I am an elementary school principal so I walk alot.
My sister, who is a fashion plate, actually purchased a pair becasue she said they "looked expensive" and stylish. She likes the curved soles.
The only thing I do not like is that they are heavier than normal shoes which makes them harder to get used to walking in.
Also, I wish you could tighten up the Mary Janes a bit more because I have narrow feet.

These shoes were recommended by my orthopedic surgeon due to my fused ankle. I wish I could wear trendy shoes, but this style is acceptable and I CAN WALK AGAIN with a reasonable gait. I am able to skip the full leg brace and walk with this shoe. It is difficult to stand in one place with the shoe with the constant rocking due to the rocker bottom.

I have had my MBT's for about 6 months now. I work in a hospital and am on my feet all day. I wear my MBT's every single day and cannot live without them! I can tell a definite improvement in my posture and, by the end of the day, my legs and feet don't feel totally spent anymore like they did when I wore Dansko's. THe only downside was that after about 5 months, the suede started to wear thin on the top and almost get a hole in them. I was upset by this b/c I only wear them inside, they hadn't gotten wet or anything and for the price, that seemed very soon for them to wear out. However, I was VERY impressed with Footwear[...]Overall, I am extremely satisfied with both the shoes AND the website.

I received these shoes for Christmas and although it has only been about a week I absolutely love them! I wear them to work everyday and I am still in the break in period but I can definately feel and see a difference in the way that I walk and my posture. I would have to say so far that the only bad thing is that you can't wear them all day long to begin with and they take some getting used to as far as exactly how your supposed to walk and stand in them properly and they do run about 1 size too small so be sure to take that into consideration. I love the shoes though and would definately recommend them to anyone that is on their feet all day long!

This is my second pair of MBT's and I plan to get a pair of sandals, also. They are an investment, but well worth it because they help my back and hip. I no longer want to wear 'regular' shoes after wearing MBT's for a couple of months. This style tends to slip on my heels, but a friend who also has them told me that improves some after wearing awhile. The toebox is somewhat narrow, so I ended up getting 1 full size larger. This store has been excellent to work with!

This is my third pair of MBTs and this pair was to wear to work. Perfect! So glad I got them. I bought woolen socks to wear with in the winter. Really cute for MBTs. I am a 7 1/2 size a little on the wide side and an MBT size 8 1/2 is perfect for me in all three styles that I own.

I have many problems with my feet and was scheduled to have surgery. I also have osteoarthritis in both knees and sciatica. Since dicovering MBT shoes I have canceled the surgery and can walk and stand comfortably for long periods without pain. The Mary-Jane style shoes are my sixth pair of MBTs. Of course, they are the cutest of them all! They are attractive enough to wear out with a nice outfit and I highly recommend them.

I am a tour director who spends 12-14 hr.s a day on my feet.I have pinched nerves in my feet,arthritis in most major joints in my body and bad knees-these shoes are allowing me to continue a working at a job which I love, that would eventually end because of the wear and tear on your body. I love MBT's and this is now my 3rd pair!

These are very comfortable shoes! I wear them all day long and they help my back and knee pain. These are my forth pair of MBT's. They feel like I'm walking on a cushion of air. When I wear a pair of regular shoes by the end of the day my legs are hurting so much that I need pain meds. I love my MBT's!!!!! I've got a narrow heel, so the heel slips, but you get used to that.

This shoe has no shortcomings. It surpasses the best sports sneakers particularly if you have feet that easily fatigue. Provides superb support for the feet vis a vis total body. Pity that its cost is out of reach for the average person.

I'm on my feet a lot and absolutely loved the MBT sandals this summer. Ordered these Mary Jane's for the winter. I ordered a half size bigger, but my feet are sliding around. Thicker socks have made the difference. My (Morton's) neuroma pain is virtually gone and my back and hip problems are non-existent. No more orthotic inserts for me!

I frequently stand on my feet all day at work and these MBTs are the only shoes that give me the support I need for my lower back to stay in balance. While standing, I can rock back on my heels and stretch my calf muscles which helps too. The shoes activate more of my muscle groups and I can move faster and stand longer wearing them. They are not cheap, but they are worth every penny. Plus, the new Mary Jane styles look good with jeans, trousers or skirts/dresses. I love the all black ones and solid brown ones too. I'm hoping they will come out with a solid red or burgundy next.

Great for exercise/balance for seniors etc. The strap slipping will force me to pay even more to have this fixed. Price quote to tighten strap and keep it from sticking out $25. Don't appreciate this at all since I now have two pair.

I have bought 3 pers , I have been in a wheel chair. I cried every day because I could not go to work any more ,because I could not drive, my ancle was realy bad I had so many xrays, MRI.s. and many foot doctors and medicines could not help me , I am going to be 70 years old. but in my body I knew that It could not be all that. one day I did see those funny shoes, and I always go for the straingest things ,so I did walk in the walking store place and there I started asking quetions and I said what can I loose, so I did buy a pair. it was weerdo at th beginning. I did think oh boy what are those .but I did not give in. and slowly I just sarted to love them and I got adicted to them then I go the browns ones the jean ones and the jim ones. bottom line .I do not use my wheel chair any more. O go to the gim everyday and jog ,and walk 2 miles with my shepard police dog evey day. and borrom line I have convinced 4 people to buy them and they are so happy . and I bless you everyday .thank you amillion for giving me back my feet, sincerely from my heart Johanna Ps I have doctors and my jimm coach my kids and husband to back this rhat it is true what I am wrting here,

I purchased my first pair of MBT's a few years ago. I absolutely love them. I finally got around to purchasing my 2nd paid for casual. My first pair are white walking shoes which I wear with jeans. Now I can wear MBT's every day of the week.

My sister recommended MBTs. I purchased two pairs, one was Kaya. I love them. At first, I felt my muscles trying to adjust but I also noticed I no longer had horrible leg cramps at night!! Such a relief. They also have helped with my lower back problems. I was afraid I would have to have back surgery again, but now I'm not worried about it - my back is soooo much better!

Amazing Walking Experience - I am growing in love with these shoes... I look forward to wearing them. Now that the "honeymoon" phase is coming to an end (I've only had them for a week) I no longer find the sensation of the rolling movement to be "exotic" ~ now it feels like the most natural, comfortable, completely normal sensation to experience as I am walking... I find it insane now that this kind of shoe sole isn't the "de rigeur" sole for shoes across the board. The best thing about these shoes is the fact that when my foot hits the ground, the shock absorption of the initial impact of my heel hitting the ground is so comfortable and so graceful that there is no impact on my knees from the impact. I have been dealing with chronic knee and ankle pain for the last few years and that is the main reason why I bought these shoes, and they don't wear my ankles and knees out after walking in them for long periods of time. They put a bounce in my step and make every heel to toe movement comfortable and natural. My main complaint with these shoes is the toe box, it is narrow and tiny. I am used to wearing Earth and Keen shoes, which have a "natural" footbed, one that allows for the toes to be spread out naturally... These shoes would tremendously benefit from having an expanded toe box; I don't like feeling like my toes are cramped in. I'm a size 11, so there are no larger sizes for me to move up into... I chose these shoes because they are the most "feminine" and aesthetically pleasing of any of the MBT designs (which for the most part I find rather horrifying...) They are graceful and feminine enough to complement my earthy, sexy yogic clothing aesthetic, and I have found myself really enjoying dancing in these shoes and doing yogic stretches in these shoes...I don't personally find there to be any "arch support" in these shoes, but I don't think there's meant to be any. I think you're supposed to balance the mid foot and re-learn the way your arch hits the ground, which is working, and I don't interpret any pronating on my arch... All in all, very very comfortable walking shoe! It makes me sad to take them off!
