What is MBT?
Masai Barefoot Technology or MBT is not just a shoe in the ordinary sense it is a revolutionary fitness aid from SwissMasai. This product will not only change the way you use your muscles, but will improve the use of your joints and spine. The uniquely designed sole, combined with correct training, achieves a more active and healthy posture and walk.

How does it work?
Through its unique design of its multilayered sole, MBT transforms flat, hard, artificial surfaces into natural uneven surfaces, simulating the walking action of our barefoot ancestors.
Unlike most conventional training shoes that support and cushion your feet, the unique construction of MBT challenges the sole, and the muscles used to form your posture, to be more active.
This reactive, more supportive muscle action increases shock absorption for joints and discs.
Walking more upright not only looks better but automatically makes us healthier and stronger. The back and joints are strengthened, circulation is increased and breathing is more efficient. MBT lengthens and strengthens the whole body while standing, walking or in gentle running.
The function of MBT is similar to that of balancing a ball under the foot.
Increased input-response makes it easier for the musculature to react adequately. After ground contact there is a rolling movement, starting from a negative heel position (1). This creates a pre-stretch of the calf muscles. The straightening of the body, the balancing on the mid-foot (2) and the pull-through of the step to the back (3) initiates a rotation, which follows through the whole body. This results in an active and natural posture and gait.

I tried a pair of MBT shoes after, 3 months of anti-inflammatories, insoles and several visits to the podiatrist really didn't help my heel spurs and plantar faciatis. After 3 months wearing MBT shoes and now sandels, I have occasional pain, and have started walking 2.5 miles at least 2 or 3 times a week and hope to build up to more. I couldn't be happier. The sandals are good quality material and have held up well. I think of the sandels as an investment for "happy feet" for the summer!

I have plantar fascitis, and my feet no longer hurt. My calf muscles are getting very defined. I love these shoes. They aren't my usual sexy slinky heels, but because I wear the MBT's, I can wear my heels without my feet hurting.

Daughter bought these for me after I suffered months from foot and leg problems. Now I alternate wearing these with the shoes prescribed by my foot doctor. Found these surprisingly easy to wear and reduces pressure on my feet. My daughter-in-law was so impressed with these that she ordered a pair for herself and an employee who often complains of lower back pain from standing at work all day. Worth it!!

MBTs aren't the most stylish shoes around (although they're getting better), but it's impossible to beat the comfort. I have problem feet, and these MBTs give me a comfortable run-around sandal that keeps me up and moving all day without foot and leg fatigue.

These are my 6th pair of MBTs. I have a wide foot and these sandals are a little tight around the ball of my feet. But that's fine by me as I have always had a "break-in" period with all my shoes. I don't feel that these are difficult to get in or out of, they are so comfortable. I have the original pair of sandals and after the break-in period they are perfect. I expect the same with these. I love MBTs.

This is my 4th pair of MBT's, and I am so glad that I found them. I have a pair just for the gym (they make the treadmill a piece of cake). When I am going to be on my feet alot or do a lot of walking (especially if I will be carrying things), they are the first shoes I turn to. Sensibility and height, too! My feet bother me especially in the summer, so I am looking forward to a much more comfortable summer this year. Note: definitely order a half size larger than normal. All 4 pair of mine were consistent in needing the half size up.

I usually am a seize 10.5. For MBT shoes I take an 11, but for this specific style I had to return the shoe for a 12 because from the fit of the foot sole an 11 would have been enough, but I was unable to get the strep around my ankle because it was so short. I was having trouble with my knee and was well on the way to the surgery solution when someone told me about MBTs. Since I have been wearing them (6 months), I've had no more knee problems, and my posture has improved also. In the past, a stiff neck was not out of the ordinary, but I realized recently that I have not had one since I found MBTs. I've recommended them to many people who have also bought them. Wonderful!!

Great for walking, but a little too tight across the forefoot. The strap cuts across the MTP joint.
Great shoe, but does need to be able to be adjusted for width.

They run a little small and your toes rub on the seam if you don't order up a size. They are more attractive than I expected. Posture improvement while wearing them. I haven't had them long enough to see if this lasts.

Due to a previous injury I have arthritis across the top of my foot. I needed a shoe that would prevent movement of those bones when walking, and the MBT was perfect for the job! The rocker sole keeps my foot flat while allowing me to walk normally, heel-to-toe. I have been unable to find a shoe that prevents the foot from flexing while taking a step -- except the MBT! Obviously I am sold on the shoe, but I was also sold on FootwearEtc. I had to exchange my purchase for a different size, and the customer service people were friendly, helpful and efficient.

I have to admit, I was skeptical of the claims I had heard about MBT shoes. My friends had raved to me they were so comfortable - they will become the only shoes you wear. And they make your legs look great because they work your core and leg muscles work harder when you are walking or standing. So, after wearing them to exercise and also to work during the day, I can definitely agree that they do force you to work your core and improve your posture. I don't know about great legs, but they give you some added height - who doesn't want to look taller - and they are much more comfortable than heels. However, they are heavier and bulkier looking than regular shoes, so MBTs will definitely not be the only pair of shoes I wear.

I am pleased after wearing my MBTs for a few months. They didn't work miracles, but my severe foot pain has reduced significantly and I feel like I've done more than just walk as far as exercise goes. I wanted the sandals so that I could wear them around the house, but I kind of wish that I had bought tennis shoes because I would have probably gotten more use of them. These sandals aren't ugly, they just aren't the most attractive shoes in the world.

this sandal is darling--but fits way more snug and tight (and leather is v stiff)than my other MBT sandals so you will have to break them in slowly

The construction of this shoe gives an immediate back relief and works the leg and butt muscles more than conventional shoes. After having wearing this pair for a while, I switched to a regular pair of shoes and noticed how much shocks the MBTs were able to absorb. The design is not too attractive, but much improvement from the original design. If you are concerned about your back and/or knees, you would like these shoes. The width seemed too narrow at first, but it stretched out after a while.

Comments that others have posted are accurate. I loved them for the first week I had them. I was new to MBT so the whole experience was alot of fun. After that first week the shoes really started doing a number on my left foot. The way the cross strap across the front of your foot runs pulled my toes together therefore pushing my baby toe joint out of alignment. The more days you wear the worse it gets. Was very disappointed. I have narrower feet ordered the 41 (I wear a standard size 9) so thought I would be one of the lucky ones who could wear this shoe... Alas... Didn't stop me from purchasing a pair of MBT runners... which I LOVE! Recommend MBT & Footwear Etc. to all my colleagues etc.... just not this style

This is my second MBT sandal. My first one was 2 adjustable strap design I boutght 2 years ago. Compare to them the sole is much firmer and harder to walk. I'm using more muscle to walk, which is a good workout
My dance coach recommended to maintain good posture and so far I love it. Is it really good for your back? Only time will tell....

I took my MBT sandals to Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon, where we walked for miles and miles every day. My knees and feet were comfortable and did not swell during the entire trip. I LOVE these shoes!

These are my first pair of MBTs, and I do think they're pretty effective. I'm 5 months post-pregnancy, and they helped me to shed my last 5 pounds to get to my pre-pregnancy weight. If I wear them too long, my ankles do seem to get sore and my back gets a little tight. But, if I wear them just right, I think they help my chronic back pain.

I wear mine anytime it's warm enough for sandals. I happened to luck out and find the Staka Nubuck in Beluga in my size on sale.
As per the sizing suggestions, I went up half a size and that was the right decision. I had read reviews that they caused blisters on some people, but I also followed the instructions on the DVD to make sure the heel is all the way to the back of the shoe. They were comfortable from the first time I wore them, and no blisters.
They do give a good workout and I noticed certain muscles that I had forgotten about. Overall a great shoe and I would highly recommend it.
And Footwear, etc's customer service it terrific! They were always helpful on the phone and I got them the day after I ordered them.

This is my third pair of MBTs (second from Footwear etc) and I absolutely love them.
I was recently been diagnosed with Morton's Neuroma and am ecstatic to say that while I am wearing my MBTs, I have no pain whatsoever. I pursuaded my husband into getting two pairs since he has lower back pain and he is sold as well.
I wouldn't trade my MBTs in for anything in the world and Footwear etc is the only place that I will purchase them from now on.

I love this sandal, I've gotten lot's of compliments on the looks and have been told it looks comfy to boot! Which it is. This is my 3rd pair of MBT's and would love to get more, though it is a bit expensive. They are the best shoes I've ever had, once you've tried them can't go back to your old pair. Relieves lower back pain, hip pain and foot pain. I don't even care that it's not the prettiest to look at, once you have experienced being pain free looks don't seem to matter much anymore.

Initially I was very hesitant to spend this much money on a pair of sandals that do not look very attractive, but I found the MBT technology to be pretty amazing. I instantly felt my lower back relax when I am standing and walking in these. An added benefit is that I can feel my butt and hamstrings working while I walk. The sandal straps across the top of the foot was too narrow despite the elastics and needed to stretch at first. The design is better than the original design but I am hoping they will make a big improvement for the next season. These sandals are worth it especially if you have any back or joint issues.
