Masai Barefoot Technology or mBT is not just a shoe in the ordinary sense ? it is a revolutionary fitness aid from SwissMasai.     Unlike most conventional training shoes that support and cushion your feet, the unique construction of mBT challenges the sole, and the muscles used to form your posture, to be more active.

    This reactive, more supportive muscle action increases shock absorption for joints and discs.

    Walking more upright not only looks better but automatically makes us healthier and stronger. The back and joints are strengthened, circulation is increased and breathing is more efficient. mBT lengthens and strengthens the whole body while standing, walking or in gentle running.

    The function of mBT is similar to that of balancing a ball under the foot.

    Increased input-response makes it easier for the musculature to react adequately. After ground contact there is a rolling movement, starting from a negative heel position (1). This creates a pre-stretch of the calf muscles. The straightening of the body, the balancing on the mid-foot (2) and the pull-through of the step to the back (3) initiates a rotation, which follows through the whole body. This results in an active and natural posture and gait.

I bought these shoes because a lot of my relatives have them and love them. I too love mine. I wear heels a lot, so these are definitely a nice break from that! They're comfy and I did have to order a size 6.5 when I normally wear a 6 because they run small. I probably could have even went up to a 7.

I purchased these shoes because they said that it would work muscles that I don't usually work. Well, its true, I got a very good workout walking on flat ground. I read a review that said order half a size up and I did. Good thing because these shoes fit exact when I got them. I still think I need a little room. I'll order my next shoe a whole size up. I ordered a 9.5 next time I'll get a 10. After about 4 weeks of walking I've broken them in, but I had to wear corn covers on my big and little toe because of rubbing. I don't have to do that anymore. They feel just great. I am about 2 inches taller with them on. I'm really impressed with this shoe. I'm looking at getting something for work, so I can do my fitness thing all day.

I bought these shoes for my wife after doing some research on the MBT technology. She works in the medical field and stands/walk for long periods of time, so she needed something to help relieve back stress. After comparing the different options, we found the MBT shoes to be a perfect fit for her. They are stylish and combat back pain by improving posture. She loves them and it was worth the price tag (footwear etc. is the cheapest). I don't mind spending more money as long as you get an excellent product in return and this shoe did as promised. The only drawback my wife has conveyed is that the shoe does not breath as well as her other athletic shoes.

I am an R.N. and am on my feet for 12 hour shifts. I love these shoes. This is my second pair. One for work, one for home. They do run a full size smaller than you normally wear so order up in size. The rocking motion takes some getting used to but is well worth the effort. I imagine these would be difficult for someone unsteady on their feet. When you stand up and go to step forward it helps to propel you forward. It works your thighs and calves as you walk.

I ordered my shoes and Footwear [...] but small problem, they shipped out blue instead of the pink ones as ordered. I read where they have done this before to someone. I wrote and they are shipping out the correct ones but in the mean time I still can't wear my shoes so from time in ordering and still waiting for the correct ones it will be 2 weeks. [...] just pretty inconvenient for me. My first order went great so I guess everyone can make a mistake once in a while.

Be sure to watch the video about these shoes first! Also, I ordered a half size larger than usual because of the European sizing and they were perfect! I didn't realize I was working out and I wore them all day long the first day - the next day my calves and behind were sore. Now that I have adjusted though, I love the shoes! They help me stand straighter and they are a workout just walking around. Just a note though, they are not good in snow and ice! But for walking around the city or the office, they are wonderful. I am considering ordering a couple more pair.

I work in the medical field and am on my feet most of the time. I have had problems for many years with pain in my feet, knees, hips, and low back. I have tried every brand of shoes that you can think of and still by the end of the day I would be in such pain with my feet that I would almost be in tears. I have been wearing the MBT shoes for a few months now and I have no more knee pain, my hips do not ache anymore, and my low back does not hurt. I have no pain in my left foot at all and the right foot has improved at least by 75%. I would recommend these shoes to anyone with foot, knee, or back pain. I wear them all the time now and will continue to do so. I may even throw out all my other shoes since I have not worn them in months. My employers have seen such an improvement in me that they are now recommeding the shoes to their patients.

I tried this shoe because I have plantar fasciitis - and I'm glad I did! After wearing combat boots daily and flats on weekends, I always go back to these shoes to make the foot feel better. They are a little heavy but you adjust quickly. I use my workout gear hard and I am tired of paying for top of the line sneakers only to have them break down quickly. I walk miles every day and workout at the gym 5 days a week so when I saw these shoes they naturally got my attention. I like the feel of the entire shoe when it's on. Sizing was a bit of a problem as I had to return them (easy to do) twice-I actually went up a full size and half. I can't comment on the durability at this point as I just got them, but believe me if they remain in tact for a reasonable length of time, I'll be back to purchase again. They are pricey but if they are durable and help to exercise legs, etc.-it's well worth the price! I find them very comfortable and actually miss them when I wear other shoes. I do feel my posture improves while wearing the shoes, almost automatically.

I developed tendonitis in my right ankle last summer due to over-exercising. This summer I concentrated on weight-training and had great results but my schedule during the fall, winter and spring months were unsupportive to gym activities.

Following a bad weekend, I decided to walk to work one Monday morning (from Brooklyn to Manhattan) just to clear my head. I started that on Wednesday in September and have been doing it ever since.

I noticed two ladies at my job had MBTs and I reached out to them because if I was going to walk 4.4 miles a day, I might as well make it worth my while. This was, by far, the best decision I made this year.

I am 62 and enjoy wearing these shoes everyday! I already have the blue boost and enjoy feeling the muscles toning as I speed walk in the house and when I do low impact aerobics daily. My feet never get tired or sore in these shoes! The shoes do feel heavy in the hand but I never notice the weight once they are on my feet.I wear a size 7 in a Merrell dress shoe and a size 7 1/2 in a NewBalance workout shoe as I want plenty of toe room when exercising and walking. I wear my MBT shoes every day at the hospital where I work. I'm on my feet most of the day. Since I've been wearing these shoes, I've been able to stop taking medicine for my hips and knees. These shoes are wonderful. They could be sold in pharmacies. I am a nurse and my feet would hurt so bad at the end of the shift. Since I have worn my MBT's, my feet don't hurt at all. Sometimes my lower back hurts when I get up in the morning but when I wear these shoes my back pain goes away. Thats a real bonus in my profession. When I take my shoes off at the end of my shift my feet will hurt and my lower back will ache. Several of the nurses that I work with have MBT's and they rave about them also. They also have remarked that their back pains have subsided since wearing the shoes.I have also bought the sandals and they are wonderful. These shoes(MBT's) are the best.

These shoes are great for really using calf muscles you forgot you had. A great deal of stretch and it feels wonderful. Muscles elongate and you really feel it. I didn't notice much help for low back pain, but my legs feel great.

Wow, what a great shoe!!!! I have never had a shoe that is so comfortable and doesn't make my feet ache after being on them for 8 to 12 hours a day. The are breathable and my feet never feel tired. They also have helped work my thigh, butt and abdomen muscles like the description said. My pants are now looser fitting than before. I am in the process of buying another pair in a different color and style. I have found that my other shoes don't feel comfortable anymore after wearing these kind. Great shoe for learning to walk after reconstuction of ankle. The shoe does the rocking motion that your ankle would normally do.The shoes is very expensive but given the choice of walking almost normal to walking with an ankle that no longer bends is priceless!

I had back surgery earlier this year, and have dealt with a lot of pain ever since. I was looking for anything that might help me through the day since I spend most of my time on my feet at work. These shoes did actually help alleviate some of my pain right away! When my foot hits the ground, I don't feel the impact in my lower back like I do with regular shoes. Even though these shoes are a little funny looking, I'm really glad I bought them. One thing I would warn you about, they run a bit on the small side. I would probably order a half size larger than you usually would.

I have had low back pain for years, and since ordering my BMT shoes, my pain is much improved. There is so much support and cushioning. It does take a while to adapt to the way the shoe feels when walking, but they are definitely worth it. The only complaint I have is due to very flat feet, I had to add an extra arch support. But the shoes run a little wide, and it was no problem.

These are the most outstandingly comfortable athletic shoes I have ever worn. They take a little getting used to at first because of the "rocking chair" soles, but it is well worth it. I have had numerous foot surgeries due to bad genetics and these shoes have been like heaven for me! There is absolutely no pressure on my feet when I wear these shoes and I stand on concrete all day long. No other shoes that I have bought, even super expensive ones, can compare! MBT also makes sandals which are awesome for the warmer weather!

I was so excited to get these shoes because I had read that they could possibly eliminate the hip pain that I experience during extended walks. Unfortunately, they gave me some of the biggest blisters I've ever had on my heels!! Ouch. They were also too high on the sides and cut into my ankles. However, I kept wearing them and eventually I was able to break them in.

Now I love them. They have greatly reduced my hip pain when walking...and that's why I bought them.

I walk 3-5 miles per day and definitely see a difference since I have started wearing my MBTs. My COR is stronger because I stand up straighter and taller. An added bonus is that my legs are more tone than when I was walking in my running shoes. Give them a week or two to break them in, but after that, you're good to go! love mbts. found them the cheapest here at footwear etc. did the 3 day walk for breast cancer and walked 60 miles in them. did training in them as well. i know others who have done many walks in the same pair and the shoes are still going strong. expensive, but really a great investment if you do a lot of walking. just started jogging in them and i really like them for that as well. got shin splints before, but not when wearing these shoes!

What can I say about my MTB's from Footwear, etc. except relief. I work in a Neonatal Unit with 43 beds. We all were developing foot problems from the hard floors. One by one about a dozen of us have bought MTB's from Footwear, ETC. We found you had the best prices and selection. Wow, my feet thank you! I literally was having problems walking, especially when I first got up in the morning. Now after wearing my rockers, I feel releif. I think I avoided surgery and steroid shots thanks to your shoes. We love them, you should do a commercial withthe staff from our NICU. We have moved to a new building with better floors, but we still wear are Footwear,etc,MTB's. Thanks for the great shoes! [@]

I bought this shoe for a three-week trip to Europe. A new MBT "model" was what I wanted, and what I tried on in a bricks and mortar store. However, I didn't want to spend THAT much money when I'd never worn them before. The toe bed was a little tighter than I would have liked, and was tighter than the style I tried on in the store. I elected to keep the shoe anyway. On days when I walked almost all day, I wished I'd gotten a better fit in the toe. I have wide feet, so would not recommend this shoe to someone who buys a wide when she can. We got a different style for my husband (like he'd want pink!), also on sale, and his was terrific. We used Scotch Guard protector before we left, and with a gentle toothbrush/liquid dishwasher soap cleaning upon our return, they cleaned up nicely, even tho' they were predominately white. We did not find getting used to the MBTs as difficult as some reviews led us to believe.

I walk in my MBT's one hour every morning with my dogs.
45 min. walking club at school, every Wed.
I love my MBT's! My posture is better, I feel my leg muscles strengthening and toning as I walk. When I wear my shoes, I feel as if I could walk forever. I don't know how to say it. I feel light and airy walking. There is absolutely no pressure on any part of my body. Extremely comfortable.

I had heard about these shoes a couple of years ago, but resisted jumping on the bandwagon especially because of the cost at the time. After seeing them again in a fitness magazine, I decided I was ready to try them and I'm glad I did. For the first few days, my calves were sore and I could really feel the difference in the way I walked and carried my posture. Now, they are almost like a second skin and I wouldn't walk in anything but my MBT's! Well worth the investment, especially if walking is already part of your fitness routine......this just steps up a few notches!

Knee hurt even after surgery. Ordered these shoes and the pain went away. Put on old tennis shoes to work in yard and wash the car on a nice summer weekend. Results were awful. My knee got swollen and inflamed and it hurt to walk. After several hours of ice on the knee and putting on my MBT back on I was walking around and within a few days the swelling and pain was gone.

I use these shoes almost every morning for my power walk. It ramps up more muscles in my legs and butt so I can feel it the next day. I can tell that my posture is taller when I walk as well. I also wear my MBT's when I know I'll be walking on concrete surfaces, like malls, grocery stores or warehouse stores (like Costco). I don't feel near the impact on my spine after only a light afternoon of errand running.
When I first got the shoes I got bad blisters on my right heal. I don't know if this was a defect in my foot or the shoe, but the shoe was hard to break in none the less. However, I developed a callus by wearing the shoes for short periods every day and now this doesn't bother me. The shoes are also more flexible now that they are broken in.

I am quite happy with my MBTs. They are truly comfortable. I suffer from flat feet and other age-related feet problems. Been having some back and leg pain. When wearing these shoes it seems like my body is in the proper alignment and most of the pain is gone. People are always interested in knowing about the shoes. I have referred several to Footwear, Etc. for more information. I raved so much about them that my boyfriend bought a pair. The only complaint I have is the weight of the shoes.

Before I started wearing mbts, I was going to the DRs. and having shots in my feet so I could work standing all day. Since I found mbts, I have not had any shots in my feet. No more foot or leg pain. I am a nurse who is on my feet nearly the entire time I am at work, I also have a bad back and have not been able to find any shoes that do not add more pain to not only my back but also my feet. MBT's are an excellant shoe, my feet, legs nor my back ache at the end of my shift, not even after a twelve hour shift.These shoes also make me walk differently using muscles I don't normally use when I walk. Very surprised with - you guessed it, the appearance! Familiar with the less-than-flattering look of the MBT's, but SMALL price to pay for awesome comfort! All of the physiological perks of these shoe's design are true. Hated the fact that they were too big, and Footwear was out of my correct size. I usually wear 8 1/2, and 9 - 9 1/2 was too big for me. (heel slipped). Take that for whatever it's worth.

I wear these shoes while I work. I do a lot of standing and quite a bit of walking. They improve my posture just by standing in them.
Since I am not one to work out on a regular basis, I could feel that my calfs were sore before the first day was over, but all the more reason to wear them! They are a bit heavy and require that you pick up your feet to walk. I am very satisfied with my purchase!

This a great shoe for walking or for someone who has a job where they stand all day. It is the most comfortable shoe I have ever bought. It does help to relieve pain or pressure on my back if standing for awhile. One should defiantly buy at least a half size bigger shoe than they normally would because these shoes are narrow inside. I would buy these shoes again in fact I will be buying a pair for my Mother and Mother in law for x-mas.

I am on my feet either standing or walking a great deal of the day at work. My legs had begun to really bother me, even if I wore support hose. After switching to MBTs, my legs feel good at the end of the day without the hassle of support hose. This style has been much more comfortable and workable for me than the original pair I got in another style. I have a narrow foot and this style actually feels like it's narrow.

I am so glad for the sale price on these discontinued MBTs. I have wanted to try them for years, and finally found a site where I could try them and have a free return if they didn't work out for me. I did have to return the first pair for size. I usually wear a 9.5. The size 10 MBTs were too tight, but size 11 MBTs worked well for me. I took them out tonight for my nightly 2 mile walk. I got a much more intense workout and I can feel my abs engaged even while standing still. That was six hours ago and I haven't taken them off yet. I love these shoes.
