What is mBT?

Masai Barefoot Technology or MBT is not just a shoe in the ordinary sense it is a revolutionary fitness aid from SwissMasai. This product will not only change the way you use your muscles, but will improve the use of your joints and spine. The uniquely designed sole, combined with correct training, achieves a more active and healthy posture and walk.

How does it work?

Through its unique design of its multilayered sole, MBT transforms flat, hard, artificial surfaces into natural uneven surfaces, simulating the walking action of our barefoot ancestors.

Unlike most conventional training shoes that support and cushion your feet, the unique construction of MBT challenges the sole, and the muscles used to form your posture, to be more active.

This reactive, more supportive muscle action increases shock absorption for joints and discs.

Walking more upright not only looks better but automatically makes us healthier and stronger. The back and joints are strengthened, circulation is increased and breathing is more efficient. MBT lengthens and strengthens the whole body while standing, walking or in gentle running.

The function of MBT is similar to that of balancing a ball under the foot.

Increased input-response makes it easier for the musculature to react adequately. After ground contact there is a rolling movement, starting from a negative heel position (1). This creates a pre-stretch of the calf muscles. The straightening of the body, the balancing on the mid-foot (2) and the pull-through of the step to the back (3) initiates a rotation, which follows through the whole body. This results in an active and natural posture and gait.

This is my second pair of MBT's and I can't begin to explain how awesome they are - my posture is PERFECT when I wear them, my vertical jump has increased tremendously (I run hills in them) and my calves have never been more defined. Aside from that, they feel like walking on clouds. No more jarring of your needs and joints and you glide while walking - they're just really fun to walk in and you can't have this kind of experience with any other shoe. Another added plus is it makes you an inch and a half taller.

Easy enough to put on without lacing every time...just use that free shoehorn! Also, I got them a little dirty and they cleaned right up with a cloth dampened with plain water. They cushion every step and put a bounce in my walk!! I'm a walking advertisement for MBTs now...

This is my second pair of MBTs and I am SOLD! I LOVE these shoes! I am on my feet alot and have had severe back pain for years. I gave MBTs a shot and to my suprise they made a huge difference.

This shoe provides a lot of relief for my back and knee problems. It improves balance and really helps soften your walk on hard surfaces.

I put on a pair of my old flat bottom boots (I needed to go play in the dirt)and felt like I was clomping and hitting the ground really hard.

Comes with a DVD, that teaches you how to walk in them. That should tell you how serious these guys at MBT are. Shoes felt amazing right out of the box. You need to order a 1/2 size bigger for proper fit. They are heavier than most shoes but that is because of all the extra material they build them out of. I didn't need to wear my $400 pediatrist made orthotic inserts in them and my feet feel wonderful. These shoes are evolutionary walking tools. Treat yourself and spend the money!

After unsuccessful surgery for a hammertoe and Morton's neuroma, a different doctor suggested yet another surgery. I'm not doing that, so I asked him what he might have to offer short of surgery. He said a few people have luck with these unusual shoes.
I wear them for walking, and they not only relieve the pain while I walk, but I can switch back to more conventional shoes after walking in these for a while, and still feel better. They seem to correct a posture/gait problem and it stays corrected, at least temporarily, after I've worn the MBTs.
I've had them a few weeks. I hope the progress continues after months.

For years I have had problems with severe foot pain, knee & lower back pain. I work 12 hour shifts on my feet a lot, & by the time I got off work in the morning I could barely walk to my car. Since getting the MBTs I no longer have that problem. A lot of my coworkers are now wearing them. I had no trouble getting used to them at all. Some people have trouble with the rocking sensation when they are standing still, but I find it's women who are used to wearing heels & standing forward. If you stand up straight it's not a problem.

I'm a healthy 44 yr old with no physical ailments. I work in a hopital pushing a 200+ lb ultrasound machine from room to room and then I stand to perform the exam. I've had pain in the balls of my feet for years. (It's so bad, I can't stand to be barefoot at home). I have bought every kind of tennis shoe and worn every kind of insert..(even those products that you put your foot in to make a custom molded insole) with marginal results.

I noticed some of my coworkers wearing these unusual looking shoes and when I inquired...they were unanimous in their satisfaction (and warned me to get a half size larger). When I rec'd these shoes...I wore them w/out any inserts and they are the first shoe that actually gave me relief. They seem to be rounded inside (into my arch) as well as the sole...distributing my weight evenly across the entire foots surface, much better than any aftermarket insert did. I've only had them a few weeks, but what a two weeks it has been! Now I am getting inquiries from other coworkers. I intend to get sandals/flip flops for walking the dog and washing the car. Learning to walk effortlessly in these things did take a few days.

I have worn these "anti"-shoes for 3 weeks and love them. I have bad knees and a bad back, but I'm no longer suffering from these ailments as I used to - amazing! I now walk up and down stairs without pain in my knees, and my back feels equally good. I'm sure my back feels better because these shoes make you stand straighter which helps your spine. I highly recommend them for the person who is on their feet all day - especially on concrete. Be forewarned though, these shoes really work your leg muscles and take quite some time to get used to. After 3 weeks, my legs are still tired after walking/standing in them all day. Hopefully my leg muscles will build up soon so that the tiredness goes away. In any case, the joint pain has been relieved - YEA!!!

When my husband came home with my first MBT's, I took them back. I thought the price was RIDICULOUS for a pair of shoes. The sales person talked me into keeping them and trying them out. I did and loved them. I have bought 3 more pair for me , 2 for my husband, one for my Dad and my daughter is next. Thank you footwear et. for the great price and service! Got these to walk in and after I did I put my New Balance back on to go to work. UGH! I will have to get another pair of these quick so I can wear them to work! I stand straighter, my feet don't hurt and I don't have any calf strain at the end of the day. Doesn't get any better.

As an active 85 year-old I say thumbs up to MBT. Takes a little getting used to but the shoes have exceeded my expectations. Compared to NB walkers at the same pace and comfort level on a 3 mile walk, MBT raises my heart rate by 10-12 points. That's a WOW for me.

I have plantar fasciitis and achilles tendonitis.
The pain was making it difficult to walk. I was told about mbt'S tried at a store, liked them and ordered on line at a significant discount.
The shoes came in perfect condition and on time.

MBT's are fantastic. I read over one hundred reviews before I decided to make the investment in these shoes. I found the best prices here and my wife and I have each purchased two pair, one each for work and one each for walking. I followed the advice of taking a few days to work up to wearing them the entire day and have experienced no problems whatsoever. My posture is better (I'm an inch taller in them!) and back, leg and hip pain has disappeared. Pain in my back from scar tissue from an old muscle tear that was constant before was gone in two days. I couldn't be happier with this shoe investment.

Because these types of shoes are different than any others, fit was a problem for me. I personally need the mens' width (womens' run narrow). The heel seems to lift a bit, but after many tries of different sizes and styles, these work very well for both my husband and I. Just be sure to take the time to get used to the feel of them. This company was very helpful, I would definitely recommend them to my friends

this shoe and all MBT appear to be not true to size but smaller. I have a medium width foot, but noticed my true size was too small. This is good for working out and I find the impact on my wearing this type of shoe is difficulty trying to walk in my regular shoes. I find I want to wear these all the time. You should definetly view the dvd. It does take a while to get use to . After 3 weeks I felt the difference .You can't help but having better posture .

Two years ago I had an ankle fusion which gives me minimal movement of my ankles.With the MBT's and the rocker effect bottoms I feel like I have more flexiblity in my ankle. They're great and help my walking extremely!!

Bought these shoes for my father who has a nearly fused ankle from osteoarthritis. He loves them. Suddenly, he can walk all day without discomfort. The MBT style shoe has a learning curve to use and they are difficult to stand still in but my father reports he now would rather were them than not.

I've owned the shoes for a couple of months and put a few hundred miles on them. The break-in period was very short. Although the shoes change the way you walk, the rolling effect is very pleasant. I bought the MBTs for exercise walking, but I wear them all day.

I'm a glass artist and I'm on my feet for several hours each day, constantly moving. Prior to owning these shoes my legs and back were very tired after only a couple of hours in the studio. Now I can work several hours without a break and still feel great.

The MBTs are great for a walking workout. They strengthen and shape the leg abd gluteal muscles. The dense padding in them makes them more comfortable than other walking shoes. Knees and hips are less jarred while walking. I just love wearing my MBTs!

This shoe and style are ideal for professions requiring alot of walking and/or standing. My plantar fascitis is finally healing because of the unique support offered by these shoes! My Foot Doctor recommended these to help stabilize my gait, I tended to lurch instead of limp, now I walk almost normal, thanks to MBTs! My accident left my right foot with much less movement ability, and these compensate well.

Weird looking and awkward if you're just standing, but the minute I put them on I had NO HEEL & ANKLE PAIN. I'm very flat-footed and have tendonitis from years of walking in "bad" shoes, and I've always walked on my heels, so these are also teaching me how to walk correctly. I'd wear them around the office if I could, but they're walking shoes (not office shoes). I had to order men's, because the women's only go to size 11 and they run small. I wear an 11 1/2. That is my big complaint, because I would love to order some of the women's styles.

If you are on your feet all day, these shoes are a must!! I dislike paying high prices for shoes although my feet are not ordinary. These shoes all worth the price if you can catch them on sale that is. I will be watching for other styles for casual and dress to add.

This is a completley different shoe than anything you have ever worn. It even comes with a DVD to teach you how to walk in them. Due to their design this shoe really does improve your posture and gives your calves and quads a work out with little to no real exertion/impact to your knees or back. I am a believer of MBTs!!
